Grain
The grain is the seed of the rice plant, a fertilized and ripened ovule containing a live embryo capable of germinating to produce a new plant. It is composed of the ripened ovary, the lemma and palea, the rachilla, the sterile lemmas, and the awn (not always present). The lemma and palea and their associated structures constitute the hull or husk. The embryo lies at the ventral side of the spikelet next to the lemma and contains the embryonic root. The rest of the grain consists largely of endosperm (the edible portion), containing starch, proteins, sugar, fats, crude fiber, and inorganic matter.

Bio-accumulation | Accumulation of a pollutant inside the body of an organism. |
Bioassay | A testing method, using living organism to determine the presence of a chemical. |
Biochemical Selectivity | Is due to inheritance difference in the make in the make up of plants with respect of their tolerance of certain chemicals. |
Biodiversity | Sum total of all living organisms including plants, animals, and micro-organism on the planet. It encompasses all genetic resources of the earth. |
Bio-fertilizers | Refers to bio-culture added to soil so as to enrich nutrients indirectly, when suhch culture multipliers and will be responsible for nutrients fixation. |
Bioherbicides | Are usually native pathogens cultured artifically and spread just like pre-emergence application of herbicides on plants. |
Biological Control of weed | Involving the living organism such as insects, herbivorous and other animals, disease organism and competitive plants to limit weed infestation. |
Biotype | A population of individuals with gentetical genetic constitution which may be homo or heterozygous in nature. |
Blanket application | Refers to the application of herbicides over the entire soil surface or weed infested area which is done mostly in case of selecting herbicides. |

Blue revolution | Blue revolution is belong to fisheries production. |
Boiled Rice | Kernals in the paddy extracted after boiling paddy to certain temperature and later drying. |
Bolting | Refers to significant stem enlongation that precedes the flowering in many plants. |
Book Keeping | operation carried out wins observing the vaspa condition and not maintain the normal sequence of tillage. |
Border Effect | Yield or any ancillary observation of plants near to the border of plot are affected due to different treatment of neighbouring plots, this effect is known as border effect. |
Border Rows | These are outer few crop row that are used to isolate the main plot. In case of seed plots these are the rows of male sterile parents but in case on commercial crop the same seed materials is used for raising the border row. In case of experimental plot the border row are used to eliminate the effect of treatments applied in adjacent plots so that the main plot is not affected. |
Boro rice | The rice crops planted In December-January and harvested in May-June is known as boro rice. |
Breeder seed | It is genetically purest seed stock obtained from breeding devices where all genetic characters are kept under full control and it becomes the source of multiplication for foundation and then certified seeds. |
Brix | Percentage of total solids in sugarcane juice read from brix hydrometer. |
